WASP Sting in the Tale eBook Darren P Upton

I've waited for a W.A.S.P biography for years and finally got a real one written by an author that actually loves, appreciates and respects their music and it also helps that the author knows what he is talking about. I'm one of those fans that fall within the realm of die-hard and super fan I don't do that with to many other band's the only one that comes close to my love of W.A.S.P is all things Jon Oliva of Savatage fame. As a biography this book is amazing I really appreciate the fact the author took the time to do this now if Blackie would pen his own biography then my metal collection would be complete. W.A.S.P's music has been an awesome experience for me Blackies lyrics are very soul stirring especially during The Crimson Idol stage of the game. I'm one those fans who would also say that song represents my life to a T. The Great Misconceptions Of Me, The Idol and Heavens Hung In Black are such beautiful works of art. Blacklist to me does best when he does the melodic stuff the softer stuff mixed with the aggressive music such as the first song I mentioned and his melodies when singing heavens hung in black is untouchable. Sorry the super fan just came out lol. Anyway this book is a must have for those who are fans of this band.

WASP Sting in the Tale eBook Darren P Upton Reviews

I am a huge WASP fan and really didn't learn anything new about the band. I wouldn't recommend spending your money on this book.
Good behind the scenes look at the world's best metal band. Mr. Upton gives you the facts and allows you to draw your own conclusions.
A huge fan of W.A.S.P. over the years I enjoyed hearing from the members of the band through the life of the band.

I would have liked some input from Blackie (I'm sure the author would have also) but Darren did a fine job with the material he had at his disposal.

The only complaint would be a better breakdown of the album timelines mixed with interviews on them much like the Aerosmith and Motley biographies.

I still remember having my cassette of the first album rewound to play I wanna be somebody for my walk home from school my entire freshman year.

Darren thanks for putting together a book on a very underrated band from my youth.
Having been a huge fan all of my life, I can honestly say this book is full of interesting facts. It talks mostly about the band and it's play dates and does little to actually show how the players lived and sacrificed for their sound and vision. Relationships I would have liked expounded on would have been a few notes on Blackie''s childhood as well as how concert sites dealt with cleaning up the urine that was hurled at the stage by fans. WASP is unique, and required a lot factual guts to pull, and had the music to back it. Great book. I just wish there was more depth.
Paints a bad picture of Blackie Lawless.
Truth 2004/2005 he did change. That's his business why.
If you were lucky enough to have talked to The Man Behind The Mask,
consider it a privilege very few people have had.
If you're a die-hard WASP fan this is a must. I enjoyed the interviews and the history of the band. I have my own history with WASP, l saw them on the first 1983-84 tour an still have Blackies Bass pic. I've met nearly every member (Stet has Always been my favorite ) I have seen WAS with Randy an Chris. Chris is an absolute trip an a little scary...lol. I've only not met two members Johhny Rod and Blackie himself, try a l might it never happened after so many concerts. He has Always been one of my highest Rock n Roll hero's up with Dio an Halford. WASP and Blackie will always #1. Great Read!
This is not a biography of a group or a singer in the true sense of the word, but the unbelievable commitment of a hardcore fan to his absolutely favorite band. I can relate to Darren in many ways I did fall in love with WASP after picking up Live...in the Raw, I did drive my mom and friends insane waiting for the Headless to be released and talking non-stop about it when it actually came out, and I did travel miles to WASP shows and fell victim to Blackie's constant date canceling habits...but I would have never had the determined and relentless love that our author showed over so many years.

Unfortunately, this reads more like a collection of fanzines or short essays than a real book, so it will be tough for non converts to finish, but if you're an old fan, it'll either rekindle your fire or get you a little closer to the non-lawless members.

Blackie posted his story on the bands website and it just shows and confirms the hard work Darren put into his writing, but if you want the story of the band, that is probably a quicker and more accurate read.

Having said that, I just finished it in a few hours and ordered a WASP tee on eBay for old times sake, so what do I know!?!
